Ynet is reporting that we can expect to see more Haredi Protests in Jerusalem next week protesting a parking garage open on Shabbat. What is the catalyst for this new rounds? Nothing. According to Ynet this new round is triggered by the fact, that the smaller weekly protests have lost their attraction to Haredi protesters. This new protest is meant to put the issue back in the Haredi limelight. The protests garnered national prominence last year when they became violent. Sadly I suspect that next week's protests are likely to be violent as well, as Haredi riff raff work out the steam they have built up over the year. This is even more infuriating as the Police and Army have their hands full while they are getting ready to deal with mass Palestinian protests next week to mark the anniversary of the sixth day war.
As I pointed out a few weeks ago, any real thought that the Haredim are seriously worried about Shabbat has been refuted by their insistence not to postpone Lag Ba'omer by a day - to stop the massive Hilul Shabbat caused by security forces having to prepare for Lag Ba'omer celebrations in Meiron.
